Whether or not OIB’s business brokers can broker a sale in your state will depend primarily on the state’s rules regarding licensure. While every state requires a real estate license for the sale of real estate or real property (or any interest in real property), not every state requires a license to broker a business sale.
The states that don't require a license for the sale of a business (in blue on the map) generally take one of two positions: that the lease is incidental to the sale of the business or that the fee is not based on the transfer of the lease. We are able to broker business sales in these states as long as they don’t involve the transfer of real estate.
In addition, our brokers are licensed for real estate in five states (in grey on the map)—Minnesota, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, and North Dakota. In these states, we can assist in business sales involving the transfer of real estate.
